A chip cone is actually never too big, but sometimes too small. If the cone you ordered is too big, you simply cut it down to the size you want. So when in doubt: always take a chip cone size you’re sure is big enough.
In our webshop you’ll often see 8 different sizes for a chip cone. These sizes are determined by measuring the width of the open side of the cone. If the open side of the Brabant Check cone is 21 cm, for example, we call it a PZ 21. Most cones are offered in sizes PZ 10 to PZ 26.
The most popular chip cone is the PZ 17. This size is widely used in fry shops and restaurants for a small portion of fries. A PZ 17 holds about 150 grams of fries. For comparison: a PZ 26 is about 3 times as large.
The amount of fries that fits in a chip cone strongly depends on the type of fries. The thinner the fries, the fewer grams fit in a cone. So fewer thin French-style fries fit in a cone than thick Flemish fries. In the overview above you’ll find an indication of the grams of fries per cone for each size. The low value is for thin fries, the high value for thick fries.
When frying at home you can count on about 250 grams of oven fries per person and about 150 grams for children. Bear in mind that when you use real fresh fries you need about 125 grams more per person. This is because the fries lose part of their moisture during frying.
PZ 13 and PZ 10 are our smallest chip cones. These sizes are suitable for presenting small snacks such as an amuse, chocolates or sweets. For a portion of fries the PZ 10 is too small; for that you’re better off with a PZ 15 or larger.
In our webshop you’ll find 3 different cone holders. The large stainless steel cone holder is suitable for PZ 17 (S), PZ 19 (M), PZ 21 (L), PZ 23 (XL) and PZ 26 (XXL). The small stainless steel cone holder with sauce cup is suitable for PZ 13 (XXS), PZ 15 (XS) and PZ 17 (S). The ‘Fry Meter’ is suitable for PZ 13 (XXS), PZ 15 (XS) and PZ 17 (S). You can also use the Fry Meter for the PZ 19 (M) and PZ 21 (L), but then you have to leave a gap free between each cone. You can then serve a maximum of 6 instead of 11 chip cones at once.
